The Presidential Pitch for Young Entrepreneurs is a deliberate, systematic, and integrated policy initiative by the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) to boost the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the country. The business competition, a revolution in the history of Ghana for young entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 40 serves as an incubating platform for existing businesses and capital funding from the government. The initiative seeks to turn creative businesses by the Ghanaian youth into global business giants with the support of government. The criteria for selection are feasibility, innovation, scalability, and potential impact of the business. NEIP is calling for applications from eligible youth with the entrepreneurship spirit to apply for a grant to enable them scale up their business. Eligibility Criteria Age Requirement: Participants must be between 18 and 40 years old at the time of the competition. Nationality: The competition is open to individuals who are citizens. Youth Participation: The competition aims to encourage the country’s youth, so only individuals within the specified age range are eligible to participate. Business Focus: Participants must present innovative businesses that have the potential to be developed into feasible, scalable, employable, and impactful businesses. Originality: Businesses submitted must be the original work of the participants and should not infringe upon the intellectual property rights of others. Are you an entrepreneur scaling technology to enhance the climate-resilience of frontline communities? Are you a nonprofit innovator using technology to combat the adverse effects of climate change on your community’s health and well-being? The Twilio.org Climate Tech Prize is investing $1 million from the Twilio.org Impact Fund in actionable technology solutions, addressing both immediate and enduring challenges faced by communities susceptible to climate-induced migration and displacement. Judging criteria Submissions will be judged according to the following criteria: Climate Resilience Solution: Impactful solution, implementation, or value prop that enhances resilient outcomes of frontline communities in the face of climate change. The solution should also respond to shifting customer demand or unlock new business opportunities across the value chain. Tech/Solution: Implementation, or value prop that bolsters mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts in the face of climate change challenges. Preference for software and digital communications technology solutions. Impact: Clear demonstrated impact with specific metrics. Company has thoughtfully addressed and mitigated the negative (or unintended consequences) of the solution. Financial Model: Committed financial support, documented and sound sustainability plan, or clear business model with ability to scale. Traction & Market Opportunity: Has a developed product or service with 2+ paying customers or projects and demonstrates early product/market fit. Team: Team contains experts or specialists in their field with a variety of backgrounds including representation from climate impacted communities. Inclusive Design: The solution incorporates inclusivity and equity in every step of the design process, and the team has deep knowledge of and presence in communities they plan to serve. Following an interview, finalists will be evaluated and scored by the Judges based upon the following criteria: Overall excellence in advancing climate resilience for vulnerable communities Exceptional impact and evidence of potential reach and depth of impact Ability of the team to deliver results and scale for even greater impact Five (5) Winners will be selected to receive a cash prize of $200,000 each. Funding will be allocated by ImpactAssets based on Twilio.org’s recommendation. Prize funds will be administered directly to winners upon receipt of relevant tax and other required due diligence documentation. Winners are responsible for applicable taxes. A Startup Challenge for Female Entrepreneurs During this exciting hybrid startup competition, female founders will submit a video pitch for their early-stage startup and fill out a short application form. Pitches will be judged based on the innovativeness, framework, and market viability of the product. ELIGIBILITY Individual participants must be at least 18 years old. All teams must have at least one female founder. All startups must be younger than 24 months. The startup must have a software or hardware product. The startup cannot have received more than 2M in funding. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend in person for the final judging round on October 17, 2024 in Nashville, TN, USA. Participants will need to cover the cost of their travel and accommodations. REQUIREMENTS 1. Submission Form Submit your project to the Girls in Tech YouNoodle before the deadline and complete the submission form questionnaire. Submissions (including both a video pitch and pitch deck) can be edited until the deadline. 2. Pitch Video Presentation & Deck Upload a short pitch video presentation including your pitch deck. This video can be submitted as a YouTube link on your YouNoodle application. The video should be a maximum of 5 minutes long and include the following details: Problem Explain the problem that you are solving and how consumers will benefit from your solution. Use a story to paint the picture so investors can understand your business. Vision Explain your vision and the mission of your company. Keep it short and straight to the point. Shell Foundation and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) aims to increase farmer incomes by reducing post-harvest losses in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. To accomplish this objective, it is necessary to implement scalable, cost-effective solutions that cater to the post-harvest requirements of smallholder farmers. These solutions should encourage sustainable agricultural practices while harnessing the benefits of clean energy technologies. About the Prize The Post Harvest Loss Innovation Prize is seeking innovative solutions that reduce post-harvest loss for smallholder farmers in emerging markets. Funding from the prize is unrestricted. This prize offers more than just a $50,000 financial reward for the winning applicant. Finalists gain access to a network of experienced industry leaders and receive media exposure to showcase their innovation. The winner will also benefit from access to Factor E’s post investment support . Gain the resources and recognition you need to accelerate your agritech journey, grow your innovation, and create impact. Applications will be reviewed by the Factor E investment team, and the top five finalists will be announced on September 17th. The final award announcement will be on September 25, 2024. How will applications be assessed? We prioritize innovative solutions with the potential to create substantial impact within our target markets. While not all criteria are mandatory, we evaluate submissions based on the following key factors: – Innovation: The innovation must be for smallholder farmers. Submissions should demonstrate a novel approach to solving a problem faced by farmers in emerging markets. Innovative solutions are defined as technologies, business models, hardware and/or software that have the potential to become commercially viable. – Solution Validation: We are seeking solutions that have undergone successful testing, either in a controlled laboratory environment or directly in the field. – Global Applicability: Innovations can come from any geography globally but must have relevance for direct application in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa with the ability to scale to other emerging markets in the future. – Gender Impact: We prioritize solutions with a demonstrably positive impact on female farmers. – Scalability and Reach: The ideal solution should have a clear path to scale with significant commercial returns in the future. The technology should have a direct economic impact with the potential to empower over 1 million farmers and demonstrate future return on investment (ROI). – Farm-Level Implementation: The solution should be designed for use by farmers, not through retail channels. – Minimal Behavioral Change: Solutions with a low barrier to adoption are preferred. They should require minimal adjustments to farmers’ existing routines. – Financial Traction: Evidence of progress towards financial sustainability is a positive factor. Prior fundraising success is also considered. – Technology Readiness Level (TRL): We look for well-developed technologies at or beyond the validation stage, with preferably existing paying customers. – Founding Team: A strong, balanced, and diverse founding team with a proven and visionary leader (CEO) is crucial.
