Accelerating Trade and Investment under the AfCFTA (ATIA) is a project funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC). Running from 1 March 2025 to 28 February 2026, the project aims to foster a more conducive trade and investment climate in Africa. A key component of ATIA is to strengthen trade and investment linkages between African tech start-ups and Japanese companies. The project builds the capacity of African start-ups to scale internationally, collaborate across borders, and attract foreign investment. The countries covered under this initiative are Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana. ►What’s in it for start-ups? We are selecting 5 tech start-ups from Ghana and 5 from Côte d’Ivoire to benefit from exclusive support under the ATIA project. Selected start-ups will receive: ➔ Tailored business coaching (including investor readiness and internationalisation support) ➔ Participation in a sponsored business mission to Japan, to meet potential clients, investors, and partners (coverage includes accommodation and flights to Japan) ➔ Opportunities to attend regional tech and B2B events on a cost-sharing basis ►Who can apply? The Entrepreneurship World Cup is one of the largest and most diverse pitch competitions and support programs of its kind. Every year, tens of thousands of entrepreneurs from 200 countries compete for a share of US$1 million dollars in cash prizes and millions more worth of investment, support and publicity and a global finals event attended by leading investors. The Entrepreneurship World Cup is co-hosted by the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) and Monsha’at, the Small and Medium Enterprises General Authority in Saudi Arabia, with support from more than 50 strategic partners around the world. The competition was conceived by the Misk Global Forum in 2019 and developed in conjunction with GEN. The Entrepreneurship World Cup is more than just a pitch competition. It gives everyone who enters access to the knowledge, networks, and for some, the capital they need to start and scale a company. Eligibility Requirements – Any startup from around the world is welcome to apply and become an Applicant. – Applicant startups must be legally registered or planning to register in their country of residence. – Applicant startups must be ten years old or less by the date of the Global Finals. This six-month programme is designed to fuel high-potential startups through intensive in-person and online learning. The programme begins in November 2025 with a fully funded two-week bootcamp in Accra, Ghana, plus ongoing online support with business coaching, expert-led sessions, and valuable peer connections. In addition to training and mentorship, participating teams can apply for financial support through the Fellows Fund, which offers a total of £35,000 in equity-free grants. Fellow Eligibility To be eligible for these Fellowships, prospective Fellows must: – Be of at least graduate level.; – Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible low- or middle-income Commonwealth country; – Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country; – Be fluent in written and spoken English. – Not have undertaken a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship within the last five years (at the time of taking up the award); – Be available to undertake their fellowship from the prescribed start date; In addition, they must demonstrate – Evidence of innovation, in terms of product, service, or market – Active development for at least six months and demonstrable commitment from team members – A working minimum viable ‘product’, service and/or prototype – Significant evidence of customer engagement or traction in the form of early sales or pre-sales, proof of interest or demand, signed contracts or other relevant evidence. – Your startup must be a registered business in your respective country. Launched for the first time in 2021, the World Trade Organization’s Informal Working Group of Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, together with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the International Trade Centre (ITC), and this year in partnership with UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), are calling for innovative ideas that help small businesses participate and contribute to the circular economy. With this competition, your ideas will not only raise awareness among businesses and policymakers of the diversity and opportunities for a circular economy but will also promote best practices in supporting the sustainability and resilience of small businesses, and their participation in international trade through efficient, innovative and zero-waste business models. CALL FOR PROPOSAL What should the proposal entail? Initiatives that can include awareness-raising campaigns, competitions, capacity building, training, mentoring and networking programmes related to the circular economy.
