Designing your life: Lessons from Bill Burnett and Dave Evans
Designers create worlds and solve problems using design thinking. Look around where you are – your home, workplace, or wherever you find yourself. Everything you see was designed by someone as a result of design thinking.
Design thinking is not only about organizations and institutions designing solutions, products, and services to address problems. It is applicable in life toward fulfillment and satisfaction. Life by design is about creating your life. In their book _Designing Your Life: How to Build a Well-Lived, Joyful Life_ , Bill Burnett and Dave Evans show us how design thinking can help us create a life that is both meaningful and fulfilling, regardless of who or where we are, what we do or have done for a living, or how young or old we are.
*In this session, we will draw on lessons from the book and use proven techniques like reframing, prototyping, and mind-mapping to organize ourselves and lean towards a more positive life. We will also fall on Steve Jobs’ Stanford Commencement Address, _Connecting the Dots,_ for a self-examining and reflective introductory session to prepare us cognitively to apply the principles of the book using journey maps. This will open us up to designing the lives we want and allow us to draw inspiration from our career or aspirational climaxes.*
We will be focusing on the following:
Building a dashboard for assessing your life: connecting the dots; assessing your journey
Developing a framework for choosing a life that you want
Becoming more action-oriented using prototyping, and testing principles
